Man alive - it was hot! 75 and 83% humidity! I knew it would hurt and it did. Kept my pace for 11 miles and then the banked time just melted away when I started walking. Finished in 4:36. I kept readjusting my goal as time went by. I never thought I couldn't finish...I just didn't think i'd have to walk so much.
And, as I crossed the finish line, I looked for my 4 teenagers, all decked out in matching shirts I had made. I saw the girls from the distance and they ran towards me with the camera. I guess Wade had sent out a distress signal from mile 20 - so, out Zack ran with two Gu packets. Darn!
Wade finished in 6:01. He was hurting and had to dr. when we got home.
All in all though - it was fun! I'm looking at Run for education in Mason City on October 14th. Will be the day after the Big 12 relays but if Jackie is swimming in Ames, that'll work.
